Johann von Drach is a professional violinist and virtuoso specializing in improvisation by ear. His neo-classical music blends European classical traditions with Oriental influences, while his exceptional versatility allows him to adapt instinctively to virtually any musical style, ensemble, or occasion.
Born in Belgium into a private family with apparent ties to Austro-Hungarian nobility, Johann draws inspiration from a heritage spanning Catholic, Muslim, Protestant, and Jewish traditions.
His professional journey began as a street musician in Germany, where he developed his distinctive ability to listen, improvise, and connect with an audience. His path has since taken him from the streets to prestigious performances for distinguished individuals, as well as concerts and musical services in churches and historic castles.
Widely travelled and exceptionally well read, Johann feels particularly at home in sacred and historic spaces. The many scars he carries, including those across his face, are visible traces of a life shaped by hardship, travel, and experiences that have left their mark.
Whether performing Baroque, classical, Oriental, folk, contemporary, or entirely improvised music, Johann combines technical virtuosity with a rare instinct for adaptation, creating music that responds to the place, the occasion, and the people around him.
